Koko's South Coast Classic: Day 1

Brendon van Rooyen
27th April 2012
First day complete for the 4A Kokos Classic, we were surprised with the conditions as the south westerly winds came through earlier than expected, the day started out with a 3ft contestable wave this making it very tough for all competitors to make it through their heats.

We started the day with a paddle out in memory of David Lilenfeld, with the loss of his life from a shark attack for all those who couldn't attend the Cape Town or Durban paddle out.

First division going into the water was the Dropknee division going into a straight quarter final battling it out to get into the semi finals. The riders which made the semi finals are, Dropknee
World Champion Sasha Specker, Ian Campbell, Jaryd van Daalen, Terence Pieters, Wayne Smith, Mathew Webster, Derek Footit and Rory Fellow Smith.

Following after the Dropknee heats was Pro round 1, this being the most competitive division in body boarding. Seeded into quarter finals was Adam Morely, Rory Fellow Smith, Rheinhard du Toit and Mathew Lombard, advancing through round 1 to the quarter finals are Brendon van Rooyen, Sasha Specker, Storm Prestwich, Ian Campbell, Adam Waites,Derek Footit, James Jones, Stephen du Preez, Jason Fowler, Mathew Webster, Mark Mc Carthy and Tristin Roberts.

In the Junior division making it to the semi finals is Stephen du Preez, Michael Manardt, Tyler Foster, Wesley Coetzee, Ian Viljoen, Jason Fowler, Kerwyn Laas and Rowen Campbell.

After the Junior division the wind started to come up harder making the wave very hard to ride for the Mens division. Proceeding through to the semi finals is Wayne Beekman, Keegan Baillache, Mark Mc Farlane, Heino Nel, Nick Phillips, Michael Meyer, Stuart Bradford and Bradley Moys.

The Boys division was a straight semi final and the Ladies, Masters and Grand Masters have a set final which will be surfed tomorrow.
