The ninth annual Wimpy/Rossi Bodyboarding Pro-Am is taking place at Margate Main Beach from May 2 to 4, 2008. The bodyboarding contest is now set to entertain thousands of holidaymakers on a packed Margate main beach as the Wimpy/Rossi contest has a reputation of attracting big waves, which makes for some spectacular rides and high-risk manoeuvres.

An estimated 120 bodyboarders from around the country will be travelling to the Kwa-Zulu Natal south coast to compete in this South African Bodyboarding Circuit event which will earn them valuable points for their quest to be South African Bodyboarding Champ.

The second event of the bodyboarding circuit looks set to be the biggest yet with the Margate Beach Wimpy and Rossi Board Company coming in as the anchor sponsors for an impressive ninth year running ensuring that there are a number of great prizes and lots of cash up for grabs. Pro riders will have R12 000 up for grabs courtesy of Wimpy and Dropknee riders will be fighting it out for R2400 and product prizes sponsored by the online surf store www.factory7.co.za.

Something to look forward to is the mother and daughter duo Maria Costa and Karla Costa-Taylor who will be battling it out against each other for the top spot in the ladies division. Karla, a former two times World Bodyboarding Champion, will go up against her mother from Brazil who is currently on holiday in South Africa. Karla has made it clear that her mom can still give her a run for her money and she will definitely be keeping an eye out for her in the final.

A Development Clinic will also be held during the course of the event and is open to anyone who wishes to give bodyboarding a try. Equipment will be available. Southern KZN has asked all entrants who have old or spare boards, fins, or rash vests, to please bring them along and donate them to this growing development initiative. Development manager Martin Otto said, "All equipment will be greatly appreciated, we plan to have hundreds of new faces in the water and need any help we can get".

Other sponsors for the event also include Lizzard, Ocean Eyewear, Surf M'Ocean, Face Forward and Island Style, who have also given product prizes to make up a very impressive overall prize package for this event.

The contest briefing will be on 1st May at the Margate Hotel at 6:30pm. For further information contact Martin Otto on 083 694 7885.
