2005 National Champions to Be Crowned in Next Two Weeks

The 2005 SABA South African Bodyboarding Champions will be crowned within the next two weeks over a five-day national tournament held at Herold�s Bay in the Southern Cape.

Seven of last year�s SA Champions will be back to defend their titles. Pro Champion Marc Jucker (EP), Women�s winner Robyn Sorenson (Central KZN), multiple Men�s division champion Wayne Beekman (Southern KZN), Drop Knee rider Vaughn Harris (Southern Cape) and Masters division star Steve Polinski (WP). Boy�s Champion Adam Morley (SC) and Boys U12 Champion Bradley Moys hope to emulate their past success but have moved up a division. Morley is currently leading the Junior rankings and Moys is 7th in Boys ratings.

The event which is sanctioned by the South African Bodyboarding Association (SABA) carries prizes to the tune of thousands of Rands.

Divisions cater for Boys (U12 and U15), Girls (U16), Juniors (U18), Pro Men, Women, Men, Masters, Drop Knee and Development.

Development clinics will be run during the event to attract newcomers as well as uncover and develop fresh talent to add to the fast growing sport of competitive bodyboarding.

The five day event with has attracted over 154 entries is guaranteed to be an exciting affair with individual as well as team titles at stake.

The South African Bodyboarding Championships were first held in Jeffreys Bay in 1987. Team members representing each province are selected from a series of trials held in their region over the course of the year. This is the final event on the 2005 SABA circuit; in addition to crowning new SA Champions, the points count towards the crowning of the 2005 national series SABA champions.

Teams include the Maui and Sons Western Province Team, the Science Boland Team, Southern KZN, Central KZN, 360� Surf Shop Northern KZN, Eastern Province, Border and Reef Southern Cape.
