Kumba West Coast Classic 2013

Simon Heale
14th March 2013
The Kumba West Coast Classic has always attracted the big names. People such as 2010 winner and 2013 GSS title contender Mark "Boetie" McCarthy. For those who were there to witness the surfing this year was incredible and Mark blew us away with huge backflips and technically perfect riding.

Then we have 2011 winner Darren Halse, SABA and SA's winner and competitive veteran on the local and international scene for many years. Focussed and driven both in and out the water he is always a huge threat.

Finally we have the latest champion, the 2012 winner, Matthew "Mafoos " Lombard. He blew up in his riding last year, both free surfing and competitively, and was focussed on making a name for himself and one that people would remember. He started that campaign with the win at West Coast Classic and Capped it off by representing South Africa at the ISA World Games in Venezuela and a following months stint in the Canary Islands.

An awesome initiative called "Bodyboarders give back" was started last year, and continues again this year, being run by Karen Lombard. This is a message to everyone coming to ride, spectate or wants to donate from afar.

With the caliber of riding so high, you better bring your A-game and the rewards could be huge.

Don't forget to book your accommodation and get your entry in for the event.

See you all there!
