Day One: SA Bodyboarding Champs

1st October 2012
Day One of the SA Bodyboarding Championships kicked off today in the waters off Lucien Beach in Southern Kwa-Zulu Natal. The weather has been fantastic all day with a north-easterly wind, hence the selection of Lucien Beach, as the only spot on the South Coast where conditions are favourable during a north-easterly. Competitors enjoyed contestable waves throughout the day, with the high tide rewarding the riders with some fun 3 foot A-frame peaks!

A total of 30 heats were completed during the day with Round One of the Pros, Juniors, Boys, Mens and Masters divisions being completed.

Andrew Raath (WP) started the day in style with a clean reverse air in the very first heat, while Tristan Roberts (Boland), who is competing in both the Boys and Pro divisions, was looking in excellent form to take the title and dominated his heat. Other standout performances from the first day of this exciting contest were Michael Searle (Southern Cape) in the Juniors division and Stuart Bradford (CKZN) in the Mens division.

It was a great day on the beach with Power Play Energy Drink, a product of the Coca Cola Company, providing the sound system and refreshments to keep the riders going throughout the day.

Tomorrow's forecast looks promising with lighter winds, but a slight drop in the swell size. A call on location and surf conditions will be made first thing in the morning. All in all an excellent start to an exciting competition!
